{KeithHaring} Spotlight on Keith Haring  {KeithHaringRadiantBaby1}

In Recognition of World AIDS Day, and to celebrate the inspiration of artist Keith Haring, who made art "for people" and not for museums, visit this website and spend some time learning about Keith, his love of drawing, and what students of all ages have created with his famous images.

Invitation and challenge:  Using one of the inspired ideas at the Keith Haring for Kids website, create a drawing with a message. The message can be about the hope for a world without AIDS; it can be a message about friendship. Use your imagination and submit your drawing with message to Ms. Lis-Simmons in the Library. Submissions will be posted.

   December 1 - World AIDS Day

Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. The World AIDS Day theme for 2009 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights'. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children.  A vast majority of people with HIV and AIDS live in lower- and middle-income countries. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.            (statements and statistics from AVERT.org)

GOAL (Go Out And Learn) everyday after school homework assistance

The Library Media Center serves the entire school.  It is always open for student use, unless a teacher "books the space" for a class period.  On the morning announcements, when you hear closings for the Library and the Lab, you are hearing that teachers have requested the space and the resources for a specific use.  Sometimes there is a request for use of the Library after the school day has begun.  We are sorry for the inconvenience this may occasionally cause.
 Check the postings outside of the Library door for daily updates.

Need to return a book?  The Book Return is right inside the Library door.  Drop it off on your way past.
Need a flyer to take home with the sign-on info to use the Databases and Electronic Resources from home?  Flyers are in a box with a green label straight ahead through the Library door on the top shelf featuring New Books.
Need something and can't find it?  Ask.

Search Engines
gather sources from the internet. Results need to be assessed.
Nettrekkeris a recommended search engine that offers two unique features: 1) the option to have results read out loud 2) the ability to choose reading levels in results.

What's a Database? Organized information from resources that have authority. Keyword and Subject searching are like "Crossword puzzle thinking" - if what you are looking for doesn't come up in a "hit", ask yourself what other words will fit the idea or concept you are looking for. Always remember to speak to a teacher in the room when you're feeling stuck in your searching.
