Assembly for 11th & 12th grade students:
New Paltz High School will host an assembly for the Juniors and Seniors on Monday, May 21st from 8:30-10:30 a.m. as a continuation of our college and career readiness programs for students. This year, students will screen the documentary The Hunting Ground, which details concerns surrounding unreported and underreported Title IX complaints on college campuses across America. A 2015 survey by the Association of American Universities (AAU) found 23% of students reported nonconsensual sexual contact during their four years on campus. A link to the study of over 150,000 students at 27 universities is included here http://www.aau.edu/Climate-Survey.aspx?id=16525.
The assembly will be introduced by high school teachers and our librarian, as well as a social worker and director of BRAVE at Bard College. Our team also includes the school social worker, school psychologist, and school counselors. There will be access to support throughout the screening and also in the Student Support Center, if required. We encourage you to discuss the information with your child and we welcome any questions you may have about the screening.
9th and 10th graders will participate in a presentation on teen dating violence awareness and prevention. The assembly will include interactive segments where students can participate in activities. The assembly is sponsored by Love Doesn’t Shove, the school’s teen dating violence and awareness club. The guidance counselors, school social worker and school psychologist will be available if students need support.
