Mrs. Hoyt

Welcome to Multisensory Reading.

My website will include several parts of the Multisensory Schedule and some resources to keep your children reading and spelling at home. There are several websites and online activities that you can access at home. The links to these websites can be found under the Multisensory Resources tab above.

Okay, let's get started!

In class we begin with:

Language and we learn about where words came from, tell some funny jokes, or discuss our day.

(This can be done daily for fun!)

Alphabet Strip - Click on word to be redirected to page or click on page above.

(This should be done daily and will take no more than 5 minutes).

Reading Decks- This should be done daily to review sounds and help prepare student to read and spell. (This will take about 5-8 minutes ).

Spelling Decks - This should be done daily like reading decks to review sounds and help prepare students to read and spell. (This will take about 5-8 minutes).

Handwriting - This is a great activity for students to work on to work their muscle memory and get the letter name, shape and sound in their brains. (This can be as short as 5 minutes or longer if student would like to practice more).

Reading Practice - This activity should be practiced daily and can be in the form of an online tool, reading assignment from the classroom teacher or even items around the house. Recommended time 10-20 minutes daily.

Spelling Practice- This activity can be done using the "magnetic letters" link under Multisensory Resources, or with 3D letters at home, scrabble tiles, or any creative item that has letters on it. Be sure to review the alphabet and decks prior for a warm up. This can be as short as 5 minutes, 5 words or any time frame in which the student is willing to work.

Comprehension- This is an area that can be done in any setting throughout your day. In fact, you are most likely completing this several times a day already. When you read ask your child questions about the story. Ideas for this activity at home will be listed in the Comprehension page. (This activity can be done daily for about 5-10 minutes).

Composition- This is an important activity that can take on many forms at home. Students can write poems, stories, mail letters to family/friends, journal or just about anything they can come up with. (Completing this daily for 5-10 minutes keeps students using all of their multisensory areas and can improve their reading, spelling and vocabulary).
