"Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future" -John F. KennedyHello. My name is Mrs. Paulette Easterlin. I am a 5th grade teacher at Lenape Elementary School. I would like to tell you about myself so that you can get to know me better. This marks the beginning of my fifteenth year as a New Paltz teacher, and I am very excited about the opportunities in store for the 2020-2021 school year. While at Lenape, I have had the pleasure of teaching alongside a great bunch of teachers across the grade levels. We are dedicated and committed to educating our children!I have been an elementary teacher for twenty years. My goal will be to continue engaging students in meaningful learning experiences. Before teaching, I obtained a master's degree in social work. During my eight years as a social worker, I worked in foster care, adoption, residential care and later, juvenile probation. One of the major things that surprises people about me is that I was also in the Army. I was in the Army Reserve for eight years as a combat social worker and mental health professional. I had some memorable experiences and left the military having earned the rank of Captain.I began teaching in Brooklyn. I was born and raised there. My husband and I moved upstate where we have made a nice home. My husband and I still go to visit friends and family in Brooklyn from time to time. We are kept extra busy with our ten-year-old daughter, Shannon and our six-year-old, Donald James. They are the apple of our eye. I will show pictures and speak about them often.I am a little competitive when it comes to sports. I like to play softball, basketball and volleyball. I can play football too, and can get dirty with the best of them. I also enjoy reading, writing, listening to music and dancing. I performed in a dance and drama company when I was younger. We even performed at Lincoln Center.I enjoy working with children and try my best to help each and every one of them reach their full potential. I strongly believe that learning and education open so many doors and opportunities. I, their teacher, am just one of the people in their lives available to guide and direct them through and to those doors. I look forward to a year filled with academic, social, and emotional growth as I work to prepare students for the transition to middle school and their future education.Welcome to the Journey! Our class will be a place where every student succeedsbecause we believe We Can!
