Middle School Science Olympiads

Two New Paltz Middle School (NPMS) Grade 8 students walked out of the Science Olympiad Tournament held at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School on March 4 with two medals each to hang on their walls. Zachary Martin and Nash Byrne won a first place medal in the Bridge competition, which drew admiring crowds during the tournament. The talented duo also won second place in the Fast Facts event.

Ten teams competed in the regional Mid Hudson regional tournament. NPMS Science teacher Glenn Eckert said that the curved arch design of the New Paltz team’s bridge stood out from the others, drawing impressed onlookers and even a round of applause as the students were awarded first place. “We are incredibly proud of Zachary and Nash for participating in this year’s Science Olympiad competition and are thankful to Mr. Eckert for his work and dedication in helping the students prepare and succeed,” said NPMS Principal Ann Sheldon.
