BOE MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
August 18, 2021
(The entirety of this meeting can be viewed on the NPCSD YouTube Channel)
**Superintendent Angela Urbina-Medina and the New Paltz Board of Education (BOE) would like to welcome our new High School Principal, Dr. Samuelle Simms. Previous to arriving here, Dr. Simms was an Assistant Principal with the Beacon City School District in Dutchess County. She has already begun work at the High School and is excited to be here! Upcoming plans to officially introduce Dr. Simms to our community are forthcoming.
**The New Paltz Central School District (NPCSD)-wide Safety Plan was approved for the 2021-2022 school year. It was reviewed and updated by the District’s Health Advisory Committee. New sections were added to the Safety Plan regarding COVID-19 protocols. This plan may be modified and updated throughout the year as necessary due to changing guidelines from state or local authorities. The Safety Plan can be viewed on the NPCSD website.
**The NPCSD will be open for all students on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 8, for a full, five day per week schedule. Local, state, and national governments urge all students to return to in-person classes. Mask wearing in all NPCSD buildings is required, regardless of vaccination status.
**Due to timing issues, the Ulster BOCES River to River Academy has canceled its programming for this fall. The NPCSD realizes that students with underlying heath issues may not be able to return to school. Our school nurses are in the process of identifying these students and the District will create a plan for those who may need alternate services.
**The District is awaiting guidance from the Ulster County Department of Health (DOH) regarding testing protocols, exposures, and quarantining with regards to COVID-19. In order to preform COVID-19 testing at our schools, we need support from Ulster County. Personnel are needed to safely and effectively administer tests, and many Districts are not properly equipped to do so at this time.
**JV and Varsity Fall Sports will begin as scheduled on Monday, August 23. Spectators for all sports will be allowed. For outdoor events, masks will be optional, for indoor events, masks will be required for all.
**The NPCSD wishes a fond farewell to Middle School Assistant Principal, Daniel Glenn. Thank you for your dedication and leadership in our District and we wish you all the best on your next chapter!
**The New Paltz Central School District is pleased to announce that Due East and Equity Leadership (also known as Due East Educational Equity Collaborative) have been selected as the organization to provide training and support in equity leadership throughout the District for the 2021-2022 school year. The BOE would like to thank Board Member Diana Armstead and the members of our REIAC (Racial Equity Initiative Advisory Committee) for their diligent work on this important initiative.
The Next Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at 6:30pm. Location to be announced.
