Students from Grades 5-12 Attend the New York State School Music Association Solo Festival

During the last two weekends, David Finch (Lenape Elementary Band Director), Nicole Foti (High School Choir Director), Sam Newsome (High School Band Director), and Sonja Nosovsky (Middle School Band Director) sent 118 students from Grades 5-12 to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo festival.

NYSSMA solo festival is an opportunity for music students to prepare and perform a piece of music and receive feedback from a professional musician. Our high school students, performing on instruments including voice, brass, woodwind and percussion, can then utilize their NYSSMA scores to apply for other honors ensembles, including All-County, Area All-State, All-State, and All-Eastern.

Alongside their incredible music teachers, students began preparing in January for this individual performance opportunity. They came early to school, gave up lunch time, and stayed after school to prepare for their performances.

Thank you to our dedicated music department for their endless efforts to help prepare our musicians for this wonderful opportunity!
