Grade 4 Students Present on Lunar New Year
Students in Francesca Houston and Joanna Wilcox's Grade 4 class at Lenape Elementary explored the rich traditions and cultural significance of Lunar New Year, thanks to a special presentation by classmates who celebrate the holiday!
The presentation included:
🎊 The origins of Lunar New Year
🎊 An exploration of cultural traditions
🎊 Delicious traditional foods
Families joined the celebration, sharing Nian Gao and Mochi for everyone to try (a first for many!) and gifting Hong Baos (red envelopes filled with treats). The day concluded with students creating beautiful paper lanterns, symbolizing the thousands released during the Lantern Festival.
This meaningful experience not only deepened our students’ understanding of Lunar New Year but also highlighted the sense of community and learning we cherish in New Paltz.
