• Crisis Interventions:


     

    *School social workers are mandated reporters, which means that they are required to report instances of suspected child abuse or maltreatment when they are presented with reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or maltreatment in their professional roles (please go to www.ocfs.state.ny.usfor more information on mandated reporters).

    *If a student makes a suicidal statement, the school social worker is to interview the student and assess the seriousness of the situation.  Assessment of suicidal ideation is done as a team of two people (i.e. school social worker and psychologist). If the team concludes that there is risk of self harm, parents will be contacted and a referral will be made to the appropriate hospital or facility.  

     

    Social worker will work with parents and hospital staff to ensure that the student receives the help they need in a timely manner.
