• Read, read, read!

Homework for Monday - Thursday is assigned at the beginning of each week.  We will send home a Homework Newsletter and all work is due on Friday at the end of the week.   Any written work is to be done in the HW Journal and will be looked at each Friday.  Any looseleaf work (Math, Language Arts pages, etc.) should be handed in on Friday as well.  The Book Log is to be filled out daily and kept in the student's Reading Bag.  This Reading Bag will go back and forth from school to home each day.

Homework comprises of Reading for 15 - 20 minutes each day, either a Math, Social Studies or Science assignment and a writing piece.

    Writing:
Mon. and Wed. is a journal entry-  For example:  "When I was riding the bus home I saw a squirrel running on a phone line.  It was running very quickly!    It reminded me of how fast my friend George runs.  How do the squirrels hold on to the line?"

Tues. and Thurs. is a reading response- For example:  "I am reading Owl Moon right now and I LOVE this story.  The girl and her father go for a night walk during the winter and they look and listen for an owl.  There are so many interesting details like-  "If you go owling, you have to be quiet and make your own heat."    Why do owls hoot?"

Notice that each entry ends with some kind of question.   We are very interested in what your child is wondering about or what they would like to fins out more about.  For us, this is a window into those wonderings.

Total time spent should NOT exceed 30 minutes (Obviously, if they would like to read more- go for it!).  There will be NO homework assigned on weekends or over vacations.  PLEASE let us know if we can support you in some way.
