    Dear Parents/Guardians,

    Thank you to our Duzine and Middle School parents and caregivers for their patience and flexibility as we navigated the recent unexpected pivot to full-remote instruction. We have carefully assessed the situation at each of the buildings and have the following update to provide: 

     

    Duzine Elementary School

    We anticipate a sufficient level of Duzine Elementary School staff being released from mandatory quarantine by Monday, December 14, and are pleased to announce that we can return to in-person instruction under the hybrid model at that time. Students in Cohort A will report on Monday and Tuesday and Cohort B will report on Thursday and Friday. 

     

    New Paltz Middle School

    Although we have no individuals in the New Paltz Middle School who are positive for COVID-19 at this time, we currently have a high number of faculty and staff who are still under mandatory quarantine due to exposure by someone who has tested positive or who is “presumed positive.” A person identified as presumed positive has not actually received a positive test result, however, was experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms. The New York State Department of Health requires that such individuals either provide an alternate medical diagnosis or a negative COVID-19 test result within 48 hours, otherwise they are deemed “presumed positive” until evidence to the contrary is provided.

     

    Due to the level of faculty and staff who must remain out, we have made the difficult decision to continue all-remote learning until after the holiday break. Please be advised that this adjustment to remote-only learning does not impact the remaining schools in the district (they will continue with in-person learning per their hybrid schedule).     

     

    We understand the burden that this decision places on parents, and the impact on our students, however, we do not feel we can provide a safe environment with the level of staff that are under mandatory quarantine. 

     

    Once again, please remember that COVID-19 spreads mainly from having close contact with someone who has a COVID-19 infection, with or without symptoms. This is why wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand washing/sanitizing is so important. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. It is essential that if your child has any of these symptoms related to COVID-19, that they stay home from school. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.

     

    We continue to urge vigilance and responsibility. The only way to prevent the spread of this virus is by taking precautions and personal responsibility for your interactions. Even one positive or presumed positive case in our schools has the potential to impact the lives of dozens of people. We must each do our part to ensure our schools can remain open.

    Estimados padres, madres y tutores(as):

    Gracias a nuestros padres, madres y cuidadores de los estudiantes de las escuelas Duzine y Middle School por su paciencia y flexibilidad al navegar por el reciente giro inesperado hacia la instrucción totalmente remota. Hemos evaluado cuidadosamente la situación en cada uno de los edificios y tenemos la siguiente actualización para proporcionar: 

     

    Escuela Primaria Duzine

    Anticipamos que un nivel suficiente de personal de la Escuela Primaria Duzine podrá liberarse de la cuarentena obligatoria para el lunes 14 de diciembre, y nos complace anunciar que puede volver a la instrucción en persona bajo el modelo híbrido en ese momento. Los estudiantes de la Cohorte A volverán los lunes y martes y los de la Cohorte B volverán los jueves y viernes. 

     

    Escuela Intermedia New Paltz Middle School

    Aunque no tenemos individuos en la Escuela Intermedia New Paltz que sean positivos para COVID-19 en este momento, actualmente tenemos un gran número de maestros y personal que todavía están bajo cuarentena obligatoria debido a la exposición de alguien para quien la prueba ha salido positivo, o alguien que se "presume positivo". Una persona identificada como presuntamente positiva no ha recibido un resultado positivo en la prueba, sin embargo, estaba experimentando síntomas relacionados con COVID-19. El Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York requiere que dichas personas proporcionen un diagnóstico médico alternativo o un resultado negativo de la prueba de COVID-19 dentro de las 48 horas; de lo contrario, se considerarán "presuntamente positivas" hasta que se proporcione evidencia de lo contrario.

     

    Debido al número de maestros y personal que deben permanecer fuera, hemos tomado la difícil decisión de continuar con el aprendizaje a distancia (“remote”) hasta después de las vacaciones. Tenga en cuenta que este ajuste al aprendizaje solo a distancia no afecta a las escuelas restantes del distrito (continuarán con el aprendizaje en persona según su horario híbrido).     

     

    Entendemos la carga que esta decisión impone a los padres y madres, y el impacto en nuestros estudiantes, sin embargo, no creemos que podamos brindar un ambiente seguro con el nivel de personal que se encuentra bajo cuarentena obligatoria. 

     

    Una vez más, recuerde que COVID-19 se propaga principalmente por tener contacto cercano con alguien que tiene una infección por COVID-19, con o sin síntomas. Es por esto que es importante usar una máscara, practicar el distanciamiento social y lavar y desinfectar las manos con frecuencia. Los síntomas pueden aparecer de dos a 14 días después de la exposición al virus e incluyen fiebre o escalofríos, tos, falta de aire o dificultad para respirar, fatiga, dolores musculares o corporales, dolor de cabeza, nueva pérdida del gusto u olfato, dolor de garganta, congestión, mocos o secreción nasal, náuseas o vómitos y diarrea. Es esencial que si su hijo tiene alguno de estos síntomas relacionados con COVID-19, no vaya a la escuela. Consulte con el médico de su hijo para obtener consejos cuando sea necesario.

     

    Seguimos instando a la vigilancia y la responsabilidad. La única forma de prevenir la propagación de este virus es tomando precauciones y asumiendo la responsabilidad personal de sus interacciones. Aún un caso positivo o presuntamente positivo en nuestras escuelas tiene el potencial de impactar la vida de docenas de personas. Todos debemos hacer nuestra parte para garantizar que nuestras escuelas puedan permanecer abiertas.
