    Dear Parents/Guardians,

    The District received notification that a staff member at Lenape Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. This individual was last in the building on Friday. The Ulster County Department of Health has been notified, and the District has been in contact with all those who will be required to quarantine, with the exception of one person (who will be notified as soon as possible). 

     

    As a result of the number of exposed staff who will now be required to quarantine, in addition to the number of individuals already out at this time, we are forced to pivot to full-remote instruction at Lenape Elementary School tomorrow. Both Lenape, as well as the Middle School, will remain all-remote until after the holiday break. Please be advised that this adjustment to remote-only learning does not impact the High School or Duzine (they will continue with in-person learning per their hybrid schedule).     

     

    As we have shared in the past, we certainly understand the burden that this decision places on parents, especially receiving it on a Sunday evening, and the impact on our students. However, providing a safe environment for everyone is the first priority, and we do not feel this is possible with the level of staff that are under mandatory quarantine. 

     

    As a reminder:

     

    The virus spreads mainly from having close contact with someone who has a COVID-19 infection, with or without symptoms. This is why wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand washing/sanitizing is so important. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. It is essential that if your child has any of these symptoms related to COVID-19, that they stay home from school. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.

     

    We continue to urge vigilance and responsibility. The only way to prevent the spread of this virus is by taking precautions and personal responsibility for your interactions. Even one positive or presumed positive case in our schools has the potential to impact the lives of dozens of people. We must each do our part to ensure our schools can remain open.

    El distrito recibió una notificación de que un miembro del personal de la escuela primaria Lenape dio positivo en la prueba de COVID-19. Este individuo estuvo en el edificio por última vez el viernes. Se ha notificado al Departamento de Salud del Condado de Ulster y el Distrito se ha puesto en contacto con todos aquellos que deberán ponerse en cuarentena, con la excepción de una persona (que será notificada lo antes posible). 

     

    Como resultado de la cantidad de personal expuesto que ahora deberá poner en cuarentena, además de la cantidad de personas que ya están fuera en este momento, nos vemos obligados a cambiar mañana a la instrucción completamente remota en la Escuela Primaria Lenape. Tanto Lenape como la escuela secundaria permanecerán alejados hasta después de las vacaciones. Tenga en cuenta que este ajuste al aprendizaje solo remoto no afecta a la escuela secundaria ni a Duzine (continuarán con el aprendizaje en persona según su horario híbrido).     

     

    Como hemos compartido en el pasado, ciertamente entendemos la carga que esta decisión impone a los padres, especialmente al recibirla los domingos por la noche, y el impacto en nuestros estudiantes. Sin embargo, proporcionar un entorno seguro para todos es la primera prioridad y no creemos que esto sea posible con el nivel de personal que se encuentra en cuarentena obligatoria. 

     

    Como recordatorio:

Todos debemos hacer nuestra parte para garantizar que nuestras escuelas puedan permanecer abiertas.
