• 2023-2024 NPCSD Athletic Highlights

     

    Join us as we celebrate the unparalleled athleticism and triumphs of the New Paltz Central School District during the electrifying 2023-2024 season.

     

    Varsity Boys Cross Country

    • Chase Snyder (14th) and Landon Fracasse (17th) earned silver medals, and Mason Eyler (21st) earned a bronze medal at the Mid-Hudson Athletic League (MHAL) Championship. They competed in a field of 199 runners.

    Varsity Girls Cross Country

    • Dylan Friedman (4th) earned a Gold Medal at the MHAL Championship, racing in a field of 118 runners. 
    • Dylan competed in the Section IX, Class B, Cross Country State Championship, placing 54 out of 115 runners.

    Varsity Football

    • Cole Mumford and Nick Horowitz were chosen as part of the Coaches Association Section IX, Class B, All-League Team.
    • Cole Mumford was named a Daily Freeman All-Star.

    Varsity Boys Golf

    • Loyal Goodermote was the MHAL Individual Champion. Loyal's winning score was the lowest in many years.  
    • Teammate Stephen Carr took 2nd place in the tournament.  
    • Oliver Watson, who won the tournament last year, had a top-five finish this year–his third top-five finish in a row.
    • All three athletes qualified for the Section IX Tournament this spring.

    Varsity Boys Soccer

    • Clive Cunniff was named to the Section IX Boys Soccer Coaches Association’s Class A All-Class Team.

    Varsity Girls Soccer

    • Competed in the Section IX semi-finals.
    • Leah Schamberg was a Poughkeepsie Journal First Team All-Star and Section IX Coaches Association First Team All-Section player for Class A.
    • Annika Walsh was a Poughkeepsie Journal Second Team All-Star and Section IX Coaches Association First Team All-Section player for Class A.
    • Riley Burdick, Melanie Kniffen, Kalle Masseo, and Maki Pine were Honorable Mentions for the Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star team.

    Varsity Girls Swim

    • Division 1 Dual Meet Champions
    • The team won the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division 1 Championship for the 2nd year in a row.
    • At the State Qualifier meet, Maya Pizzarello broke both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle school records, and was the Section IX Champion in the 500 Freestyle.
    • Josephine Laurie, Alaura Sheeley, Brooke Vos, and Kate Suchowiecki qualified to compete in the 200 Medley Relay (3rd place). 
    • Brooke Vos qualified to compete in the 200 Individual Medley (2nd place) and 100 Backstroke (2nd place).
    • Kate Suchowiecki qualified in the 50 Freestyle (6th place).
    • Maya Pizzarello was unable to attend the State championship due to an injury, and Katelynn Otis attended as an alternate.
    • At the State championship, the Medley Relay ended up getting disqualified for a .01 difference, Kate Suchowiecki was 1st alternate for the 50 Freestyle (31st), and Brooke Vos was 33rd in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke.
    • Coach Emily Benkert was the recipient of Section IX's "Swim Coach of the Year" award.

    Varsity Girls Tennis

    • Marla May Feeney, Lauren Jameson, Delia Burke, and Margo Ogden-Kosofsky qualified for the MHAL Championship and the Section IX Tournament.
    • Marla May placed 3rd in the MHAL GIrls Tennis Singles Championship.

    Varsity Volleyball

    • Competed in the MHAL Championship.
    • Competed in the Section IX, Class A, tournament final against Wallkill.
    • Class A First Team Honors went to Gabby Lutz and Annabel Voorhis, Second Team Honors were awarded to Daphne Paul-LaRonca, and Ella McDonough received an Honorable Mention.

    Varsity Boys Basketball

    • Cayden Dones was selected as the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Class A Player of the Year, as well as the BCANY Free Throw Champ and Three-Point Champ.
    • Jack Maiale was selected as a BCANY Class A All-Star.

    Varsity Girls Basketball

    • Kalle Masseo was named to the Daily Freeman’s Girls Basketball All-Stars Third Team.
    • Kalle was selected for the BCANY-Section IX Girls' Chapter All-Section "Top 50" Team for 2023-2024 season.

    Varsity Boys Indoor Track

    • Aidan Ifkovits attended the State Championship for Weight Throw and took 1st place with a throw of 69'7.25".
    • Aidan won the high school Weight Throw at the Millrose Games this winter. He threw 70’1.5”, a new personal best and new school record.
    • Aidan took 3rd place in the Weight Throw championship at Nike Nationals (70'8") and 1st place at New Balance Nationals (72'9") this winter. Both throws were a personal record for the two-time All-American.

    Varsity Girls Indoor Track

    • Olivia Lathrop competed at the State Championship for High Jump, tying for 11th place.

    Varsity Boys Swim

    • 200 Yard Medley Relay Team (Campbell Heiz, Will Mergl, Caden Salamone, Koby Wulfmeyer) placed 1st at the Section IX Championship.
    • Koby Wulfmeyer qualified for States in the 100 Freestyle.
    • Caden Salamone, Will Mergl, Oliver Watson, and Koby Wulfmeyer (Campberll Heiz was unable to attend) qualified for the finals in the 200 Freestyle Relay at the State Championship.

    Varsity Wrestling

    • Justin Coiteux earned 100 wins during the winter sports season.
    • Justin took 1st place at Sections in the 145-pound category and was also named "Most Outstanding Wrestler" for Division 2 Wrestling.
    • Justin attended the State Championship and had two wins in the tournament before being eliminated.

    Varsity Gymnastics

    • Claire Coiteux placed 5th All-Around, 3rd for Vault, 4th in the Uneven Bars, and 6th on the Balance Beam in the Section IX Championship.
    • Claire attended the State Championship and placed 44th out of 91 gymnasts.

    Varsity Boys & Girls Nordic Ski

    • Both Boys and Girls teams won the Section IX Championship.
    • Beckett Evans was the Boys Section IX Champion.
    • The New Paltz Boys and Girls teams both came in 5th place at States.
      Competing for the Girls were Hannah Ettinger, Dylan Friedman, Roxy deNey-Bhagat, and Rory Gerber. 
    • Competing for the Boys were Matei Jirka, Henry Wheeler, and Sam Hollman. (Beckett Evans was unable to attend). 
    • Beckett Evans received the Boys Sportsmanship Award.

    Unified Bowling

    • The team came in 3rd place out of 10 teams at their culminating event.
