The mission statement for our PTA is to enhance our students' school and personal life. Parents can continue to stay active in their child's "school life" by lending a hand with PTA events. If you were a room parent or helper in Duzine or Lenape, you can continue to be involved by volunteering through PTA. At the middle school level, our Cultural Arts program funds (with the help of a BOCES co-ser), 15 educational programs and events that go along with our teachers' curriculums. PTA funds three other big events, staff appreciation day, 8th grade moving-up breakfast and pool party as well as the sixth grade orientation BBQ. We also provide over $5000 in scholarships to students in need. We organize the book fair, co-recs, talent show and fundraisers throughout the year. The co-recs are a fun and safe Friday night event for our students. Admission is $5. This year, we have a rotating DJ line up. Three DJs will enhance a different co-rec with their own style of music. Basketball is available in the gym and our cafeteria offers snacks and games including ping pong. Last year, our PTA was able to provide the school with two ping pong tables to enhance our co-recs. Co-recs are made possible with the help of 25 chaperones, our wonderful custodians, Dr. Wiesenthal and Mr. Tantillo. On behalf of our terrific and dedicated chairpeople, thank you so much to all the terrific parents who chaperone the co-recs! Becoming a member costs $10 and allows you to vote at a PTA meeting. You don't have to be a member to attend a meeting and becoming a member doesn't mean you have to attend every meeting. It's really a means of supporting the PTA and our programs. Since a portion goes to the NYS PTA, it helps pay our insurance too. The NYS PTA website has many useful pieces of information, check it out if you haven't had a chance to already. A membership card also comes with a Staples coupon this year. Membership for the 2014-2015 school year starts in September 2014. You don't need to become a member to volunteer. A few questions have come up regarding the candy sale fundraiser. Seventh and eighth graders can participate in the sale to earn money to help pay for their Boston or Washington DC class trip. Sixth graders may also join in on the sale, however, the profit from their sale remains in PTA and is added to our Scholarship Fund. Our PTA has a mailbox in the main office, we also have a box on the counter for BoxTops and Labels for Education that you can send in.If you have any questions, please contact Laura Trifilo at ltrifilo@hvc.rr.com or 256-3828. Thank you for your support and have a great school year!!Enter your welcome message here.
