    Scholar-Athlete Teams and Individuals

LATHAM, NY - The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) announces its fall 2024 Scholar-Athlete teams and number of Scholar-Athlete individuals per team. This is the 33rd year NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program.

NYSPHSAA recognized 4,093 Scholar-Athlete teams this fall. To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%. Additionally, 52,547 students received individual scholar-athlete recognition by earning an individual average of 90 or above this winter season, whether their team qualified or not.

Each category experienced growth in the number of student-athletes earning Scholar-Athlete recognition, with Fall 2024 figures surpassing Fall 2023 by nearly 100 teams (3,967) and approximately 1,000 individual athletes (51,625).

“Congratulations to the fall teams and student-athletes recognized as Scholar-Athletes,” said NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas. “It is remarkable that over 52,000 student-athletes have excelled academically while dedicating themselves to their fall sports and teammates. NYSPHSAA is proud to celebrate these outstanding achievements.”

This fall, 659 schools participated in the program, representing approximately 84% NYSPHSAA’s membership.
