Duzine ENL Students Share National Pride!

Grade 1 and 2 Duzine Elementary students in Lynn Bartlett’s English as a New Language (ENL) class shared their homeland pride recently by creating informational colorful posters about their native countries. Posters included information about each student’s country’s flag colors and symbols, their families, animals common to the region, a beloved food they eat, and additional facts about the geography. Victor and his family are from El Salvador and so his poster included pupusas, a cornmeal flatbread or griddle cake with various meat or bean fillings. Jennifer and her family are also from El Salvador, and her poster shared a motmot, the national bird. Ariana and her family are from Ukraine, and so she explained how the flag colors symbolize the blue sky and yellow grains grown in the region. Tasbih’s family is from Bangladesh, and his poster included pictures of elephants, tigers, and a dish called deemandbot, made from eggs and rice. The posters are displayed outside Mrs. Bartlett’s classroom.

Mrs. Bartlett said it has been wonderful to learn more about her students’ countries as they learn more about ours!
