High School Mathletes Team Competes at Math League Sectional Championship

Hats off to our High School Mathletes Team and their dedicated instructor, Kathryn Stewart.

The team not only qualified but excelled at the Dutchess-Ulster-Sullivan-Orange (DUSO) Math League Sectional Championship, hosted at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie on March 6. 🎉

Competing against teams from Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange Counties, our New Paltz “A Team” won their section and secured 2nd place in the divisional meet before narrowly falling to John Jay in a riveting tie breaker.

Our own Mason Eyler had a perfect season and won the award, for the second year in a row, for the top scorer among the 500 plus students who compete in the league. Way to go, Mason! 🏆

Diving into intricate math problems with expertise in algebra, geometry, and advanced algebra, these brilliant minds showcased their individual prowess. The competition featured a timed problem-solving session and an exhilarating relay round, where teammates seamlessly passed the mathematical torch to conquer different segments of a problem. ⏱️🔢

Post-competition, the team had the privilege of hearing from guest speaker Trevor Hyde, a Vassar College Math Professor, who shared his inspiring journey into the world of math education and delved into the captivating realm of P-Adic numbers.

Big congratulations to the following students who contributed to this remarkable achievement:

Darren Chen (Grade 12)

Weston Culp (Grade 12)

Thornton Eis (Grade 12)

Mason Eyler (Grade 12)

Charlie DePoala (Grade 11)
