This is the place to be for Document Swap Instructions.Sorry for being out today; I planned for us to do this together.
Lucky for you, you have a highly skilled substitute,
a teacher with experience, so don't be afraid to get her help.
This is an opportunity to savor some primary source documentation of history. Yum.so...let's start with No Elizabeth Bentley, No Sadler Committee-- those were disallowed.Step 1: Quickly and efficiently make a list of documents-- by date and title--
on the board (no need for repetition).Step 2: Choose partners and ONE group of three; six groups total.Step 3: Choose a few- 2- from the list. Choose ones that YOU have never seen before;
YOU in this context means the group.
Get those documents from those who put them on the list...
you know, they give them to you.and now the juicy part...Step 4: Prepare a guided readIng of the documents. This means you will:
a. read the docs, identifying problem vocab as you go.
b. For each point or bit of evidence in the document, in the order presented, write a question that will require one to answer with that evidence.
c. Also, write a question for each paragraph that requires the reader to identify the "essence" of the paragraph.
d. Finally, YOU explain the general truth contained in the document;
you are working on this with a partner in orderto make sure you really get it right--hash it out, debate the meaning of the contents
in a scholarly way to ensure no stone is left unturned.**You are to work on this in class, and make sure it is ready for next class. Be sure to plan so that you can be ready for Monday. Your final result must be typewritten. Please Bring 3 copies for each document.
And remember to savor them...e. Arrange your work upon this framework:Students names-- your group Line for name of one reading document hereTitle/Author of Document, datevocab with definitions that are appropriate for the contextthen,Questions for paragraph one evidenceQuestion for "essence" of paragraph oneQuestions for paragraph two evidenceQuestion for "essence" of paragraph twoetceteraand... general truth contained in the document
