Gregory Warren, the New Paltz Central School District’s director of health, physical education, and athletics will be joining the national faculty of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). Warren will be teaching a course titled “LTC 616 Athletic Facilities: Planning and Development.”

In addition, Warren will be receiving the prestigious Dr. John Foley Professional Development Award from the New York State Athletic Administrators Association (NYSAAA) in March.

According to NYSAAA Associate Executive Director Dr. Jim Wright, Warren's appointment to the national faculty of the NIAAA is a reflection of the impressive work he has done locally. Warren, Dr. Wright noted, has served as an instructor as well as a leader with the State association, and he “continues to immerse himself in coursework that gives him the necessary tools to benefit the coaches and athletes of New Paltz.”

Warren now becomes one of only 192 faculty members who teach 60 courses throughout the country for the 15,000 members of the NIAAA. He is also only the seventh NYSAAA member to be recognized as a national faculty instructor in the organization’s 43-year history.

The State-level award Warren will be receiving is named after Dr. John Foley, one of the founders of the NYSAAA. Dr. Foley worked tirelessly in support of the high ideals and goals of education-based athletics at the local, chapter, section, State, and national levels. The award is presented annually to one athletic administrator at an awards banquet held during the NYSAAA’s annual conference.

The letter announcing Warren’s award explained why he is being honored this year. “As the current president of the NYSAAA and as an elite member of the National Interscholastic Administrators Association’s National Faculty, you continue to mentor and educate ‘seasoned,’ new, and aspiring athletic administrators and are so deserving of this recognition,” the letter read.

Responding to the news about the State-level award and the national-level teaching appointment, Warren said, “It is humbling and truly an honor to be recognized by NYSAAA and to serve as a member of the NIAAA faculty.”

"Mr. Warren works tirelessly to support the teachers, coaches, and students of this District,” said New Paltz Central School District Superintendent, Stephen Gratto. “His efforts to create a new wellness center in the High School resulted in a facility that is truly a credit to the District."
