New Paltz Among New York’s Top Public High Schools on 2022 Niche List (8/8/22)

New Paltz High School (NPHS) is one of the best high schools in New York State, according to Niche (www.niche.com), an online database that helps users compare the relative merits of various schools and neighborhoods. According to this highly competitive list, NPHS is also the top high school in Ulster County, ranking 160th of 1,247 public high schools.

Niche awarded NPHS an overall “A” grade by considering a wide range of factors, including academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college readiness, and health and safety. In addition to reviews and survey responses from parents, students, and residents, the ranking process included an analysis of test scores, college data, and statistics from the U.S. Department of Education.

The New Paltz Central School District as a whole also fared well on the 2022 Niche list, noted Interim Superintendent Dr. Bernard Josefsberg, who points out that the District received an overall grade of A and a ranking of 130th among 672 New York school districts.

“I’m very proud of our teachers, administrators, and students, as well as the families and community members who support them,” said Dr. Josefsberg. “The pandemic challenged us to learn and teach in new ways. Our District always strives to uphold exceptional academic standards and compassionately surround that base by implementing additional social-emotional learning strategies. We also addressed learning loss by meeting student needs with resources and additional academic support.”
