• New Paltz High School Scores High on School Ranking Lists

New Paltz High School (NPHS) has been earning some outstanding “grades” of late. According to both U.S. News & World Report (usnews.com) and Niche (niche.com), NPHS is among the top high schools in the County, State, and nation.

U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 Best High Schools list named NPHS as a “U.S. News Best High School,” placing it first in Ulster County, 131st among 1,376 public high schools in New York State, and 1,298th among almost 18,000 public high schools across the country.

Niche, an online database that helps users compare the relative merits of various schools and neighborhoods, also positioned NPHS as number one in Ulster County. On the State level, Niche ranked NPHS 97th among 1,272 public high schools.

U.S. News awarded NPHS a score of 92.66 out of 100 after evaluating the school’s performance on State-required tests, graduation, and how well it prepares students for college. Similarly, Niche bestowed an overall grade of “A” upon NPHS after considering a wide range of factors, including academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college readiness, and health and safety. In addition to reviews and survey responses from parents, students, and residents, the Niche ranking process included an analysis of test scores, college data, and statistics from the U.S. Department of Education.

The New Paltz Central School District as a whole also fared well on the 2023 Niche list, noted Superintendent Stephen Gratto, who pointed out that the District received an overall grade of A, ranking number one among Ulster County school districts, and 122nd among 672 New York school districts.

“I’m very proud of our teachers, administrators, and students, as well as the families and community members who support them,” said Gratto. “I attribute our ongoing success to this group effort. We are especially proud of the NPHS community for this achievement.”
