Night Webquest
Welcome to our new unit! Over the next few weeks, we will be reading Night by Elie Weisel. The story is a stirring and very emotional personal recollection of the Holocaust. This unit will focus on your reactions to the book and connecting the information from the text to make it as current as possible.
Rationale: Covering a book such as Night is a daunting task. There is a wealth of information on World War II and the Holocaust. The trick, however, is that we have to uncover the true, factual information to engage in a thorough and current study of the atrocities during World War II. Therefore, this introductory assignment will provide you with an extensive array of background knowledge to complete our study.
Your Task: Below you will find several activities which cover different aspects of the Holocaust, World War II, and Jews in Germany. All of the activities are sequenced accordingly, and it is important that you complete each activity in order. Some of the activities require you to answer questions, take notes, and watch videos. When the assignment is due, you will have a comprehensive quiz on all of the information covered in this Webquest. Your quiz grade will be based on your comprehension of the material and your ability to stay on task and complete the information either in class, at home, or on your own time. Some of the tasks will require you to watch videos. While completing these tasks, please use your headphones so you do not disturb others in the class.
Final note: Studying the Holocaust, and especially teaching it, is an emotionally draining portion of education. However, this is an essential part of your education as young adults. We need to remember this information. We need to not forget the experiences of others. If we do, we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of those who came before us. Approach this information with maturity and thoughtfulness. Our future, as a society, depends on your ability to remember and pass on this essential history.
