    Dear Faculty, Staff. Parents and Guardians,


    We have already seen a few flakes in the air, so in preparation for the possibility of severe weather this week, I am sharing this update of our policy and procedures around snow days for the 2020-2021 school year.


    The New Paltz Central School District has eight emergency days built into the school calendar to use in the event of inclement weather or other emergencies that would cause schools to close.


    Although technology may provide us with the ability to continue instruction on snow days, we would like to preserve their tradition, especially in a year that children have already seen so many changes. Therefore, we shall use our emergency snow days as we have in the past; if there are hazardous conditions, then the District will be closed. If we are closed due to a snow day, no remote or in-person instruction will take place.


    We are required by New York State to have 180 student instructional days. If we come to the point where we have used all of our allotted emergency days, we would then pivot all students to remote instruction for any additional closings in order to meet this 180-day requirement.

    If it is necessary for the district to close schools, then staff and families will be notified via our School Messenger automated alert system. Any changes to our regular schedule will also be posted on the district website and social media.

    Estimados maestros(as), personal, padres, madres y tutores(as):


    Ya hemos visto algunos copos de nieve en el aire, asi que, para prepararnos por la posibilidad de que haya mal tiempo o tiempo severo esta semana, comparto esta actualizaci6n de nuestra polftica y procedimientos sobre los dias de nieve para el ano escolar 2020-2021.


    El Distrito Escolar Central de New Paltz tiene ocho dias de emergencia integrados en el calendario escolar para usar en caso de mal tiempo u otras emergencias que harian que las escuelas cerraran.


    Aunque la tecnologia puede brindarnos la capacidad de continuar la instrucci6n en los dias de nieve, nos gustarfa preservar su tradici6n, especialmente en un ano en el que los nirios ya han visto tantos cambios. Por lo tanto,usaremos nuestros dias de emergencia por nieve como lo hemos hecho en el pasado; si hay condiciones peligrosas, las escuelas del distrito estaran cerradas. Si cerramos debido a un dia de nieve, no se llevara a cabo ninguna instrucci6n a distancia (remota) ni en persona.


    El estado de Nueva York nos exige que tengamos 180 dias de instrucci6n para los estudiantes. Si llegamos al punto en que hayamos usado todos nuestros dias de emergencia asignados, entonces cambiariamos a todos los estudiantes a instrucci6n remota para cualquier cierre adicional con el fin de cumplir con este requisito de 180 dias.

    Si es necesario que el distrito cierre las escuelas, el personal y las familias seran notificados a traves de nuestro sistema de alerta automatizado School Messenger. Cualquier cambio en nuestro horario regular tambien se publicara en el sitio web del distrito y en las redes sociales.
