    Warm or Cool - Due 3/1/10
     
    1. Stretch canvas
    2. Select an image to sketch onto
    wc paper
    3. Choose a warm or cool scheme
    4. Practice making colors in that scheme on a small piece of wc paper to be used as reference in class. (mix your own colors don't just use the ones out of the cakes)

    2 Day Glaze (note - we are not actually going to do this one... it's here for your reference)
     
    Day 1
    • Begin with a light pencil drawing
    • Create the entire "underpainting" in a monochromatic scheme (I recommend blue, gray, green, violet or brown) 
    • Pay attention to values and light
    • Do not be afraid to use dark value in shadowed areas but do not create large "black" areas the will overpower your painting
    • Leave the lightest areas white
    • Complete the painting to the final details
    Day 2
    • Painting directly over the monochromatic painting, use color to enhance the piece
    • This step should be done in thin washes so that you get a glazed effect
    • Be aware of the properties of color (if you put a yellow wash over a blue background it will appear green)
