  • SUNY ULSTER DRIVER ED

Posted by Rebecca Paddock-Stange on 12/7/2021 10:00:00 AM

    SUNY ULSTER

Details about our High School Driver Education program can be found at: https://www.sunyulster.edu/continuing_education/driving-safety/drivers-ed.php

In compliance with NY State DMV, SUNY Ulster will be offering a hybrid version of the High School Driver Education program that will allow students to receive their MV-278, 5hr certificate and their MV-285 Certificate of Completion. As with SUNY Ulster’s previous Driver Education Program, these certificates entitle the driver to a senior license and eligibility for insurance reductions under some providers. This program will include remote lecture classes and parental driving supervision for the in-car training. The cost of this program is $350.

    Lecture

The drivers education lecture classes will run for 16 sessions and be delivered via a live Zoom class. Students are required to attend the live lectures during the scheduled dates and times and complete all the necessary course work. There is a maximum capacity of 25 students for each section (day) of this program.

    In-Car Driving

Due to restrictions brought on by COVID-19 we are unable to offer the traditional in-car training with an instructor. NY State DMV is allowing parents and guardians who have a valid driver license to supervise and confirm in-car driving for dependent children. SUNY Ulster will be providing a driving curriculum that outlines all of the training areas that should be reviewed and demonstrated by the students. This curriculum provides descriptions of all of the in-car learning objectives as well as links to support videos. In addition we will be hosting an online workshop centered around safety tips and working with student drivers.

The two Spring sections are Tuesdays 2/22/22-6/07/22 from 3:00pm-4:30pm, or Thursdays 2/24/22-6/09/22 from 3:00pm-4:30pm. Lectures are delivered live via Zoom and the instructor will be providing the link information via email prior to the first day of class.

Parents & Guardians, if you're ready to sign up for this course, have the students Learners Permit number ready and fill out our online pre-registration formStudents must be 16 or older and have a valid Learners Permit at the time of registration.

IMPORTANT: Once you complete the form you will be given a link via email to register and pay for the course. You will not be registered for this course until you choose the section and pay for it.

If you have any questions, please contact our registration team at 845-339-2025 or cereg@sunyulster.edu
